My Thoughts on Games MDA

M.D.A. What does it stand for, what is it and why does that matter?

Firstly, what is MDA? Well MDA stands for 3 different words. The "M" stands for mechanics. The "D" stands for dynamics. And the "A" stands for aesthetics.

An example of MDA.

Mechanics basically means the rules of the game. It also applies to every action the player can take. An example of mechanics would be the algorithm for data structure in the game engine.

Dynamics applies to the behaviour of 2 or more mechanics working together. An example of dynamics would be progress made and the time constraint within the game.

Aesthetics applies to are the emotions created inside of the player. An example of aesthetics within game design would be pleasure received from the game.

All of these, MDA (Mechanics, Dynamics & Aesthetics), week together and are in every game you will ever see. This is how you design and develop a game.
