Game Idea Research- Car Storm

The game idea I decided to choose was "Car Storm".
I include info about this game idea at :my-game-brainstorm.html
I decided to choose this game idea because it was very unique. But not only that. I chose also because it wasn't too easy. Don't get me wrong doing an easy idea would be handy but I actually wanted to learn a few things.
The game is a motorbike game. The camera shows a third person view of the player. The aim of this game is to drive quickly or safely to avoid crashing other vehicles or being squished by a vehicle in the storm or from random explosions. This game doesn't actually have an ending. You just have to get the highest score you possibly can. You are equipped with weapons that are rewarded from challenges and by levelling up. This will be a 3D because I personally think they look better.

Road Redemption: A vision of what my game should look like. |
Here are some game mechanics involved in the game idea:
Obstacles:
These are set in the game as a way of making the game more challenging for the player. This will make the player more determined to level up and complete challenges. Some of these obstacles would be cars falling from the sky, random cars on the street, other and and explosions. If you get squished by a car you die, if you crash into a car you die, if your crash into another player, guess what...... you die!!!!!!! The obstacles of vehicles are available in the asset store. I would just have to start them in the sky and code them to not fall through the ground.
Rewards & Collectables:
The rewards in the game will keep the player happy and keep them playing to get more rewards. The rewards in this game would include: new skins. bike upgrades and weapons.
The skins would just be different outfits the player can choose from to wear. They start with a normal biker outfit.
The bike upgrades would be: new wheels, better engines or all around new bikes. You start with a bicycle in a new game file.
The weapons could range from: baseball bats, katanas, pipe bombs, shovels and hammers. At the start of a new game file the player has no weapons but they punch and kick. They collect weapons through levelling up and completing challenges.
NCP's:
NCP's also known as non- player character is a character controlled by a computer. This is programmed to be a certain difficulty. I could do this by using the visual studio. These will be implemented into the game to give the player more challenges as well as the obstacles and to make the game less plain if they don't have any friends to play with.

HI Cian,
ReplyDeleteReally liking your game idea. Took me a while to finally decide on one and went with an FPS style game but a car game was definitely on of my top picks. Will be interesting to see how it turns out. I'll be keeping an eye on it. Best of Luck!
Hi Cian
ReplyDeleteI just read your blog about your game idea research which I think is a great game to make and definitely would be an interesting one to play.Your gaming idea reminds me of an endless driving game which is very similar to the game I will be making .I think it will be good to have levels in your game and maybe different weather conditions which would make your game more interesting to play in my opinion also may add few vehicles that the player would be a able to chose from. But overall I think this is a great game idea and I am looking forward to see the final outcome of your game with all the obstacles that you want to add cars and other things falling from the sky sound very fun.Great blog nice idea for your game I like it!
Hi Cian,
ReplyDeleteI understand you want this game to be challenging to make, it's hard to understand why, but you do you. The part in the blog when you said you wanted to spawn the characters from the sky made me go "wow"!!!, I just wanted to keep reading to feed my curiosity. For the opening you said you want them to fall from the sky to the ground, maybe instead of something that could be very time consuming, coding wise you should maybe just spawn them on the ground as the game seems like it could be very difficult from the beginning. What if you left that part out and focused n other aspects of the game, such as the driving experience or the road map, that might just reduce the workload for you so you don't get stressed if it's not working right away. Good Luck!!!
Hi Cian
ReplyDeleteJust read through your blog post and it looks like you've really thought through this and have a lot planned for this game. If you manage to go ahead and do everything you planned here I'm sure it will turn into a great game!
Some things I was curios about where how would you make some of the cars or obstacles fall from the sky? Have you found some tutorial on how to do this or are you going to play around with the code until you find a way that works for you? Also will the player be able to get on and off the motorbike and move around or is he always stuck to the motorbike?
While it's a very ambitious game and I do like what you have planned I was thinking that maybe some options you could have is to start small with some basics and then as you progress build upon it. A way you could do this would be to program the obstacles on the road first and then have a shot at trying to make them fall from the sky. If you have some easier aspects to the game you can fall back on them if you find yourself overwhelmed!
Overall I really do like you idea and would love to see how you advance through it and if you manage to get everything you set out to do, fair play!
Hi Clan
ReplyDeleteI have to say even though i'm not relay into racing games your idea has caught my attention and I can respect going for a game that wont be easy to make I had a racing game in my brainstorm but in the end I decided to go with a maze because it seemed like the simpler one.
But I have to ask a few things don't you think you should have started of small for your first game another thing is other then the raining cars you don't go in to detail on any other obstetrical like ramps or pot holes.
Another is my not start with something more simple like a timer rather then an NPC. But if you are looking to learn something when making the game maby give the player the option to chose from a list of vehicles or at lest a different color for the bikes.
