Car Storm - First Playable

So since my prototype I have made a couple of changes to my game. This doesn't mean my game has changed immensely but there is obvious change from last week. So now this the first playable version of my game. Which is obviously one step closer to the alpha version of this game.

So much like my last post the assets are doing their job. This week I had to change my vehicle that the player would have to start with. This was because the vehicle was too good or just didn't look good with the game at all.

Changed Starting Vehicle:

So I eventually settles on either a red and black sports car or a black and yellow sports car. These will be the only models and colours the players will be able to choose from when they first start the game.

Adding More Obstacles:

I also added more rubble and obstacle for the player to avoid other than the storm. What I used as rubble was rusty vehicles. I got these from the asset package at: rusty-cars-3437

These work great because not only are they great free obstacles, but they are easy enough to position around my map. They are also aesthetically pleasing in the game with my terrain package.

The Challenges:

The hardest part is still the same as it was last time. "CODING". I am usually okay with most code but for some reason now that I'm starting from scratch it’s a lot harder. Yes, I know, I am not starting from scratch because I just mentioned my asset. By saying scratch I mean, I am writing all my code from scratch.

  1. Hi Cian! Your game is starting to look really good~ It is also good that your assets are working perfectly unlike mine, still bad as usual ahaha. Having two choices for cars is also a really good idea because people can be able to pick a car the prefer instead of collecting coins to get a new car! Adding more obstacles will totally makes the game more exciting and thrilling. I also agree with you when you said that the rusty cars asset that you add really suits your game.

Having to code from scratch is a pain and that part is what I hate too hahha. Good luck on coding your game and I wish you having more progress!

  2. Hi Cian, just after reading your blog post and I really like how your game is going so far. It looks like its coming together one step at a time. I just wanted to leave you some feedback if that's ok. On thing I really like is the overall look of the game, it looks great and shows great potential!

How do you plan to have this game play out? is it like a racing track or is the plan to make the road endless so the game just continues on and on until the player loses? Is there a way to win the game, as the player?

One thing I would say is that you should try get your basic code working so it is easier on you later on in development. Anyways, it looks great so far. Good luck with the rest of development.

  3. Well Cian,
Just finished up reading your blog post, your game seems to be coming together step by step, when you first started I thought you were mad trying to make the game you were describing. I do have one question, what's the outcome of the game, is it a racing game or is a continuous road car type game. For now I think you should focus on just making the game functional, get the basic code needed into visual studio, then focus on the design and cars later on, will save a lot of time down the line. Good luck!!!
