My Thoughts on Games Stories

What is a Game Story?

You might first look at the heading and think to yourself, "What in the world is a game story", but don't worry I am here to make everything a lot more clearer. Your first question is obviously: "What is a game story?". Well, the best definition I have for this is the dialogue and conflict that happens in a game.

Why is a Game Story important?

There are many reasons why game developers add a game story. The main reason is that in every successful it has worked. It is also a simple story that always works. You know the cliched one. The story that has: The protagonist is the player, their life shifts, they have to overcome this challenge by taking risks, the player wins and learns a lesson.

Another reason is that the choices a character makes will affect the course of the game. An example of this would be the "Far Cry" saga or the walking dead games. In the "Far Cry" games, the choices the player makes will change the entire course of the game. The choices the player makes will change the ending and what NPC's are still alive.

Choices in "Far Cry 3" that changes the ending.

Whereas in the walking dead games: the choices will change the game. By this I  mean is it will change the course of the game by showing who is still alive. But usually the characters you have to choose from will die in the same way. This makes sure the game doesn't change so much that unimportant characters are still in the game.

Choices that have to made in "The Walking Dead".
