Game Design Document - Reading 5

An image of the characters section in a game design document.

The topic I am researching for my topic in Multimedia development 2 is the "Game Design Document" (GDD).

This is a blueprint that has all the instructions for a game so the game developer can present the idea to their people on their team and so they can have a clear idea of the vision. If anything that a game developer wants in the game isn't in the document, then it most likely won't be included in the game.

Although it includes every single detail of every single thing in your game it has a structure. It's not just a load of lines of text or paragraphs like an essay. The structure has all the aspects split into different sections. this is so each department of your team will know which section applies to them and which section they don't have to worry about.

For example for the section that says "Games & Mechanics" would be for the department of the coder and programmer. This makes sense because they will know exactly what to do. Meanwhile, the section that says "Target Audience" would be left for the marketing department. This means they will find the best age group depending on what the game idea is and whats the vision.
